Natural wool and silk rugs are weaved all over the world and each has it's own characteristics which dictate how it must be cleaned. However there are certain cautionary steps which must be followed no matter what type of rug we are cleaning. Whether it is a Chinese area rug or a flatweave Kilim, the most important process we carry out is a dye test prior to washing.

A rug's worst enemy is dry soil which works it's way into the pile, through to the foundation. As the rug is walked on, this dry soil literally cuts into the soft natural fibres and slowly wears them down. This is especially true for tribal and village rugs which tend to be quite thick and so they trap more soil. Our rug dusting process ensures that all dry soil is removed before washing.

We can safely immersion wash most types of rug, whether it is a pure silk Isfahan or a pure wool Tibetan. We also carry out specialist treatments for moth control and fibre protection.
