Moths and carpet beetles found in rugs are a very serious problem. They will usually be found in dark, undisturbed areas and places that are not vacuumed properly such as under sofas. While in their larvae stage they feed on protein which is readily available in wool, silk and animal hair used to make rugs. They then lay eggs in the rug causing another cycle of rug feasting.

Moth damaged rug and the rug cycle
Moth infested rugs which are brought into our facility are first segregated from all other rugs so as not to cross contaminate eggs or larvae. They are then immersion washed thoroughly prior to being treated with a specialist insect repellent. This works by making the fibres taste unpleasant to moths, carpet beetles and other unwanted insects. We also suggest that rugs are always cleaned and treated before being put into storage as this is when they are most at risk from moth attack.
