Karastan rug being given a urine decontamination bath
Our urine treatment is so effective that we can guarantee to fully neutralise your rug so that all the bacteria is fully removed and no trace of odour remains. All rugs which enter our premises are inspected for urine with a UV light and ph test. Any rug which shows traces of urine is given a thorough decontamination bath. The rugs are soaked in a specially formulated treatment which contains a bactericide and sanitiser. A pump system pushes water through and around the rug to ensure that all the rug fibres are thoroughly neutralised and all urine deposits are expelled.
Chinese rug with urine damage
Urine is one of the commonest causes of dye bleed damage. Once urine has left the body bacteria begins to feed on the urea and emits an ammonia-like waste material. As this happens the ph of the urine moves from acid to alkiline. This alkilinity can break down the acid bond between the dye and the fibre causing colour migration. This high alkilinity will also degrade the natural fibres over time and of course cause an unsightly stain.
